Now Is the Time

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live.

Ecclesiastes 3:11–12 NIV

How often do you find yourself putting something off? The idea sounds wonderful, but the timing never quite feels right. Maybe you will take that vacation once you have saved a little more. Maybe you will wear that outfit when the weather turns. Maybe you will reach out to that friend, start that project, or finally say yes to that opportunity — just not yet. The delays pile up quietly, each one wrapped in a perfectly reasonable excuse.

I recognize this pattern in myself. We seek perfection. We wait for conditions to align, for circumstances to cooperate, for everything to feel just right. But if we are honest, that moment rarely arrives on its own. And while we wait, time keeps moving.

Qoheleth — the Teacher of Ecclesiastes — had seen enough of life to know that time is not something we can manage or predict. He had pursued wisdom, pleasure, work, and wealth, and he arrived at a conclusion that is both humbling and freeing: only God can fathom what He has done from beginning to end. We cannot see the full picture. We do not know what tomorrow holds. Time is a commodity with no guarantees, and only God knows what it holds for you and me.

And yet, rather than leaving us anxious, the Teacher points us toward something simple and profound: there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. Not someday. While they live. Now.

God has set eternity in the human heart — a deep longing for something lasting, something beyond the ordinary. That longing is real and good. But it was never meant to make us passive, always waiting for a better moment that may never come. It was meant to make us present — awake to the beauty God has already placed in this season, this day, this hour.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. Not in the ideal time we imagine. In His time. And His time is now.

So take the trip. Make the call. Wear the outfit. Do the good you have been meaning to do. Enjoy the people around you. Receive the day God has given you with open hands. You do not need everything to be perfect to begin living fully. Now is the time God has given you — and that is enough.

Reflections

What have you been putting off, waiting for conditions to feel just right? What might it look like to receive today — exactly as it is — as the time God has given you? Is there a good you have been meaning to do for someone that you could act on this week?

Prayer

Father, forgive me for the times I have let the perfect become the enemy of the good — waiting for a better moment while the present one slipped by. Thank You for the reminder that You have made this time beautiful, even when I cannot see it fully. Help me to stop postponing the life You have given me. Open my eyes to the joy and the good that are available to me right now. Teach me to live fully in the time You have placed in my hands, and to do good for others while I have the chance. In Jesus Name, Amen.
