Wonderful to Be Grateful
It is wonderful to be grateful and to sing your praises, LORD Most High! It is wonderful each morning to tell about your love and at night to announce how faithful you are.
Psalm 92:1-2 CEV
Each day arrives with a full agenda. There are responsibilities waiting before your feet hit the floor, chores that carry over from yesterday, and a list that seems to grow faster than it shrinks. A cluttered mind moves quickly from one task to the next, and in that rush it is easy to miss what is right in front of you — a thoughtful gesture from a friend, a kind word from a coworker, a small act of care that someone offered without being asked.
Busyness has a way of narrowing your vision. When your focus is locked on what needs to be done, the people around you can become background noise. You stop noticing. You stop responding. And without meaning to, you stop being the kind of person who shows appreciation — not because you do not care, but because you were moving too fast to slow down and say so.
But busyness is not an excuse. Not for ingratitude. Not for unreliability. Not for letting your word mean less than it should.
There is something deeply intentional about the way the psalmist frames this. It is wonderful to be grateful. Not obligatory. Not dutiful. Wonderful. There is joy in it. There is something that lifts the spirit when you pause long enough to recognize what you have been given and who gave it. Gratitude is not a burden — it is a gift you give yourself as much as the one you are thanking.
And faithfulness — announcing each night how faithful God has been — is not a passive observation. It is a practice. It requires that you pay attention through the day, that you look for evidence of His hand in the ordinary, that you end the day with something to report. Faithfulness noticed becomes faithfulness celebrated. And faithfulness celebrated shapes the kind of person you become.
When you think about who God is — truly stop and think — it is not hard to find reasons to praise Him. He is able to do great and mighty wonders. He is consistent when everything around you shifts. He keeps His word when others do not. He shows up in the morning with new mercy and closes the evening with the same faithfulness He opened it with. There is no version of His character that is unreliable, ungrateful, or too busy for you.
And that is the invitation. To honor God by treating others the way He treats you.
Not perfectly — that is not the standard being set here. But intentionally. With gratitude that notices the small things. With reliability that means your yes is yes and your no is no. With loyalty that does not evaporate when it becomes inconvenient. With the kind of faithfulness that makes the people in your life feel seen, valued, and safe.
You may not be able to slow the pace of your days. But you can choose, in the middle of the rush, to pause long enough to say thank you. To keep your word. To show up for someone the way God shows up for you — steady, faithful, and glad to be there.
That is what it looks like to sing His praises with your life.
Reflections
When did you last slow down enough to notice a kind gesture or express genuine appreciation to someone around you? Is there a commitment you have made that needs your attention today — a word you gave that you still need to keep? What would it look like to end this day by naming one specific way God was faithful to you? How might practicing daily gratitude — morning and evening — change the way you move through your responsibilities?
Prayer
Lord, my days fill up fast and my mind gets cluttered with everything that needs to be done. Forgive me for the times I have moved so quickly that I missed the kindness right in front of me — a gesture I did not acknowledge, a word I did not return, a person I walked past without really seeing. I want to be grateful. I want to be reliable. I want to be the kind of person whose word means something and whose loyalty does not depend on the season. When I think of who You are — faithful every morning, faithful every night, able to do great and mighty things — it is easy to praise You. Help me to honor You by treating others the way You treat me. Slow me down enough to notice. Open my eyes to what You are doing in the ordinary. Let gratitude be my first response and faithfulness be my daily practice. In Jesus Name, Amen.
